My Dog Lucy Lucy, aka Clark's Lavender Lucy Lee (toy poodle) died at about 3 am Thursday, June 19th 2008. She was two weeks shy of her 15th birthday. Lucy was born July 1st, 1993 at the edge of a cornfield/home of a backyard breeder borderline puppy mill in Waldron, Indiana. She was, is, and will always be my first dog. My partner at the time had insisted on purchasing her because she was cheap. Even though I didn't know a lot about dogs at the time I knew this was not the criteria for purchasing a puppy. Despite being a horrific example of the breed standard Lucy was one hell of a sweet dog who for many years took her place on my lap. She suffered from almost every disease/structural abnormality bad breeding can produce. The two hundred dollar poodle quickly racked up thousands in veterinary bills and suffered needlessly so someone could make a buck. Irregardless she could not have been more loved. That's the problem with backyard bred/puppy mill dogs. You still love them. Lucy made me promise myself to never, ever support the type of breeder that produced her. I have kept that promise. I only ask that you consider not turning a blind eye those who exploit our dogs for money.
The picture above is Lucy's "famous" Halloween picture. Famous because I entered it in a calendar contest being held by an animal rescue group and we won! Lucy was of course "Miss October".
Please join me in celebrating the life of the luckiest and most loved little poodle in the world. Thank you.
Did you know using a professional pet sitter can save you both time and money?
Very often pet sitting is a less costly alternative to boarding
A survey of local kennels in Carmel showed that the average cost per day for kenneling one dog is between $39 and $61 per day including "extra" services such as cuddling and playtime. These "extras" are included at no charge with your pet sitting visit. Adding a second dog in the same kennel including extras will cost you between $73 and $81. Dogs get dirty in kennels, so consider adding in the time or cost of a bath.
When your pet stays home, there is no exposure to other animals therefore no risk of communicable disease.
No driving to the kennel to drop Fido off right before rushing off to a trip.
Your pets will be there waiting when you get home. No limited "pick-up" hours.
